It is a city that benefits from having almost anything at hand, and almost all worthwhile places are within easy reach by walking. There are plenty of walking tours in Valencia, either by group or personalized. They will start from your hotel or rented apartment, wherever you might be staying, and ensure you don’t miss a thing. The Old Quarter is an enchanting area to see on foot, with its cobbled stone pathways and gothic, baroque and modernist monuments. Be sure not to miss the Central Market with almost 1000 stalls, located in a fine art deco building. There are lots of must see art museums in Valencia as well. The ceramics museum, the museum of fine art, and the IVAM (museum of modern art), for example. There are also beautiful botanic gardens to see, Malvarrosa beach, and a park that winds along the old River Turia. Along the river the Opera House, Palau de la Musica, the Oceanografis aquarium are easily seen and accessed. The park is also riddled with lovely old and new bridges. If you wish to shop, the city has a wide selection of department stores, markets, and the newly refurbished Mercado Colon is a must visit. Valencia shops feature much of the latest fashion. And food, of course; food! Valencia is home to over 1500 places to stop and eat; tapas bars, outdoor cafes and restaurants gallore. Be sure to try the local cuisine. A good place to start your walk would be the Plaza del Ayuntamiento because its in the city center, and it is close to Estacion del Norte and the famous Bull Ring. Some other monuments to take in while in Valencia are the medieval Cathedral in Plaza de la Reina, the 15th centery indoor gothic La Lonja, and El Micalet belltower. Climb 207 steps inside the tower to get a glorious view of the city from up top. Other visits worth mentioning is the Basilica of the Virgin de los Desamparados in Plaza de la Virgin, and the fashionable area of Barrio del Carmen. And of course, there are lots of quality places to stay while in the city. Apartments make great staying placing when planning on taking walking tours. They are close to sights, have everything you need and you can come and go as you please. Some lovely and highly reviewed hotels that are surrounded with great sites include Melia Plaza, Hotel Melia Velencia Palace, Continental, and Hotel puerta. You will feel welcome in Valencia with its classic, warm Spanish feel and Mediterranean climate.
